The Devonport Arts Festival, which started in the 1950s, is the town's most enduring art event. Devonport is a veritable urban arts village and this year they plan to showcase all their local talent. With a vision to inspire, delight, and educate, visitors and locals alike will be involved in a series of workshops, exhibitions, studio tours, outdoor installations, live art, music and other artsy fabulousness.
Here's the 2019 Programme:
I am excited to look around and soak in the artsy fabulousness! I am particularly excited to see the Sam Melser Art Workshop, where the audience can join Sam in the installation of a Family Tree. The vision of the exhibit is that we are all brothers and sisters so in the spirit of combined, associated and hybrid identities, visitors can bring along colour pictures of themselves and their families (whanau). All photos will be combined into this family tree installation reflecting a big picture of humanity.
I also want to visit the Paragon Matter Pop Up Exhibition, which is an exhibition of leading contemporary New Zealand artists.
The Devonport Arts Festival is on April 5-7 2019. Main festival hub is at the Band Rotunda, where most of the live events are happening and also where the food trucks will be.
